What is Sports Acupuncture & Pain Relief Therapy?
Acupuncture is a safe effective way to heal the aches and pains and prevent potential injuries that accompany athletes and those participating in recreational sporting events, gym, or regular exercise. Acupuncture enhances performance and increases recovery times and accesses your own ability to heal.
How does it work?
Vital energy qi ‘chi’ runs a circuit through the human body by energetic pathways (meridians). This flow of qi energy can be disturbed by stress, poor diet, trauma, injury or emotional distress. This can create an imbalance and lead to symptoms such as pain. Pain is the body’s natural way of alerting you that there is a disturbance of equilibrium or homeostasis on a mental, emotional, spiritual or physical level. Acupuncture restores the flow of qi to create balance in the body by activating the body’s innate healing ability. Acupuncture is recognised to affect the bodies systems including; neurological, endocrine, respiratory, digestive and the musculoskeletal system.
Pain relief – the needles are inserted to stimulate the acupuncture points. The body response is to release endorphins, a natural painkiller, these endorphins provide rapid and often long lasting relief, patients usually feel results after one treatment. Working at the source of pain helps to decrease inflammation, increases range of motion and boosts the immune system. Acupuncture is a viable alternative to natural pain relief without the use of medication and their side effects.
Athletes and recreational sports – Acupuncture is a natural holistic and effective form of pain relief that is personalized to the individual. It is non-surgical and non-pharmaceutical and ideal for athletes that require therapeutic treatment to promote recovery between training sessions, for the prevention and recovery from injuries and enhancement of performance (cardiorespiratory, muscle strength, aerobic and anaerobic capacity, and recovery of DOMS). Acupuncture is also effective in anxious athletes it helps to relieve stress and tension and increases the circulation, throughout the body.
